About Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada

The Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada (UCWLC) operates as the official association of women within the Ukrainian Catholic Church, serving members across Canada with a comprehensive range of faith-building and community enrichment programs. Based in Edmonton, AB, the organization coordinates activities across three organizational tiers—National, Eparchial, and Branch/Parish levels—to ensure consistent delivery of services tailored to local communities while maintaining national standards and vision.

The UCWLC provides extensive programming focused on four core service areas: Catholic faith development through religious education, spiritual retreats, and liturgical participation; preservation and promotion of Ukrainian cultural heritage through workshops in traditional arts including bread making, Easter egg painting, embroidery, and straw weaving; charitable outreach including food banks, soup kitchens, and poverty assistance programs; and civic engagement initiatives addressing social justice and moral values in Canadian society.

The organization administers two annual scholarships supporting graduate religious studies and post-secondary Ukrainian language education. At the local branch level, the UCWLC facilitates catechism classes, adult religious education programs, World Day of Prayer participation, pro-life advocacy, and direct community support through hospital visitation, elderly care, and transportation assistance for parishioners. The National Executive publishes the Nasha Doroha Journal, coordinates Canada-wide fundraising campaigns, and represents Ukrainian Catholic women in national and international organizations including the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organizations. With a Federal Charter granted in 1980 and roots extending back to 1944, the UCWLC combines decades of institutional experience with active engagement in contemporary community needs.
