About League of Ukrainian Canadian Women Calgary
The League of Ukrainian Canadian Women (LUCW) is a Canadian non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting a strong Ukrainian community in Canada while promoting Ukraine's right to protect its national independence, security, and territorial integrity within the European family of nations. Based in Calgary, AB, LUCW operates as a national organization with member chapters across Canada, including Edmonton, Toronto, Etobicoke, St. Catharines, and Montreal.
LUCW implements a comprehensive range of humanitarian and reform-oriented projects focused on education, medical assistance, and activities that strengthen civil society in both Canada and Ukraine. The organization administers several key initiatives including the Guardian Angels Ukraine Fund, which provides mental health support, rehabilitation services, medical equipment, educational programs, and social reintegration for Ukraine's wounded soldiers, veterans, volunteers, and war victims. Additional programs include the Hero's Companion Fund, the Friends of Ukraine Defense Forces Fund, and the Shores of Freedom Fund.
Working closely with its partner organization, the League of Ukrainian Canadians, LUCW engages directly with parliamentarians and government representatives to enhance Canada's relationship with Ukraine and facilitate Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration. The organization invites community members to participate through membership, volunteering opportunities, and support of its advocacy and humanitarian work. Since its founding in 1951 by post-World War II Ukrainian émigrés, LUCW has maintained a steadfast commitment to preserving Ukrainian heritage, facilitating immigrant integration, and advancing democratic values across North America.
